Alex Karan of IMAGINiT demonstrated Autodesk Inventor 11 IParts, IMates and IAssembly. 

Along with his excellent demonstration we also received instruction handouts of Autodesk Inventor 11 pertaining to Productivity using Inventor IParts and IMates..

Additional handouts were of IMAGINiT Professional services, IMAGINiT Technical Educational Catalog and and AUGIWorld Nov/Dec publication.

We also had an educational dialog from Alex Karan and Peter McArthur of Autodesk between SOAP members.

November 13/06 meeting highlight:

12 SOAP members attended this meeting.

David showed from a DVD News Broadcast about Deep Dive.

It is about the process of re-designing a shopping cart.

It outlined all the criteria to be considered and reviewing and encouraging new and other ideas no matter how silly or unusual the ideas may be.

David also demonstrated Inventor 11 Frame Generation capabilities.

David demonstrated Solidworks 2007 and we had discussion about the difference between Solidworks and Inventor 11 Series.

To improve SOAP financial position to purchase a better quality projector it was agreed ticket sale for regular draw prizes are $2.00 per ticket.

Draw Tickets for NFR Sotware are $5.00 per ticket with stipulation as per September 11/06 meeting.

September 11/06 meeting highlight:

8 SOAP members attended this meeting.

We had a discussion how to improve SOAP financial position to purchase a better quality projector.

It was agreed that draw tickets for NFR software are set at $5.00 with this, additional free draw tickets will be issued 

to paid up members who have attended SOAP meetings over the past 11 months.

Other door prize draw will be at $1.00 per ticket.

David Estabrooks explained about Inventor 11 Pro Simulation and Finite Analysis which allows to apply the "IF" scenario.

David also demonstrated on IV 11 Pro simulation and force applied to a hydraulic operated gate.

June 12/06 meeting highlight:

10 SOAP members attended this meeting.

David Estabrooks was the moderator of this meeting night and talked about AutoCAD 2007 rendering allowing realistic renderings quickly and easily. 

Lights were also mentioned, the new interactive light tool in AutoCAD 2007 enables you to quickly and accurately place distance, point,

and spot lights in a drawing. Coordinate display within the cross hair was also mentioned. 

 Vault for tracking and organizing your drawings was also discussed. Vault is available as a subscription with Mechanical and Electrical AutoCAD version.

Multiple station of AutoCAD or Inventor should seriously thinking of implementing Vault.

Autodesk recommends a 3-5 days requirement to analyze customer requirements, install, train and follow up.

After break time David demonstrated Inventor 10 Studio rendering. A demonstration of Contact Set within Inventor was demonstrated.

May 08/06 meeting highlight:

8 SOAP members attended this meeting.

We had the opportunity to listen again to Paul Nuyens of Autodesk making an excellent presentation of Inventor 11.

Paul spoke about Auodesk product release cycle and generally of the CAD industries.

Paul demonstrated function from Inventor 11; Spline, dimension constraining of spline, thereafter creating surfaces and thickness to the surfaces.

Smoothening of Spline, Surface and Thickness creation between 3 Spline, 2  Spline were on a Work surface and 1 Spline was a 3D creation.

Creating fillets between 2 joining parts and fillets to 2 non joined parts.

Lofting of 2 surfaces and Spline Rail, were as the Spline Rail was not connected or touched the 2 surfaces.

Sweep of several surfaces to create a Hair Dryer, Sculpting of Surfaces.

Lofting of Surfaces with spline as guide rail to create an electric razor housing per defined sketches from marketing.

Paul also talked about Inventor ACIS shape Manager.

Also demonstrated a Frame Generator, utilizing Excel spread sheet. Also demonstrated the importing of AutoCAD 2 D design components from AutoCAD dwg.

April 10/06 meeting highlight:

12 SOAP members attended this meeting.

David Estabrooks was the moderator of this meeting and talked about Inventor 11new features. 

Autodesk states that Inventor 11has the most improvement, new features of any previously released Inventor version.

David demonstrated in Inventor about multiple views of the same part or assembly, outlining the change to the part or assembly is visible within all the views.

David also demonstrated about equation parameters, their use in formulas and identifying constraints dimension.

David also demonstrated the emboss features as a wrap around. 

Question and answers were forthcoming from various attendants.

13 SOAP members and 1 Guest attended this meeting.

Alex Karan of IMAGINiT demonstrated Vault and Productstream. Vault is not only intended for Inventor but also will work alongside AutoCAD Mechanical.

Either one of the CAD software need to be installed before Vault can be installed. Alex made an excellent presentation how Vault can be useful to anyone,

particular where more then one CAD personal is involved. Alex also talked about Productstream.

February 13/06 meeting highlight:

10 SOAP members and 1 Guest attended this meeting.

David Estabrooks mention, when upgrading to IV 10, make sure your Video Driver is updated as per Autodesk recommendation.

David also talked about IV 10 constraint which are color indicated, definitely an improvement.

IV Pack and Go were also discussed, one of the feature David likes, this will give a great opportunity to clean up your product directory as it will copy only files which are used for this particularly product. Caution must be taken to ensure that all the drawing files (IDW) and Library files are copied.

Skeletal Modeling was discussed, it is of benefit if the design is used repeatedly with only some dimension changes. 

For one time/unique requirement, Skeletal Modeling is not recommended.

After Break time, David demonstrated per request Design Assistance which he used very frequently within his work scope.

SolidCAD guest Bill Taylor handed out information sheet and spoke about Inventor 11 highlight and SolidCAD.

January 09/06 meeting highlight:

14 SOAP member attended this meeting.

David Estabrooks utilized IV 10 Pro, demonstrated and explained an Assembly with over 1400 unique parts.

David also talked about his computer upgrade in particular about a graphic cards which was purchased through E-Bay.

He demonstrated and explained the process of an bottling assembly, 

meaning a bottle is placed in a cloth bag at a rate of 150 to 250 per minutes.

Also mentioning was about derived parts, adaptability, transitional constraints.

After break, David demonstrated IV10 Pro piping. Explaining and demonstrating user parameters, user variables.
