December 10/07 meeting highlight:

7 SOAP members attended this meeting.

With David as moderator we discussed problems other member had in Inventor, template files been open from other non designated directory.

We discussed 64 bit and 32 bit operation systems.

We also continue discussion about Vault and Productstream, for instance: Vault allows to keep version of CAD related files, Productstream allows file revision.

How many version/revision of files should be kept? Engineering would like to have access to all version/revision, reality indicates 2 version/revision are adequate.

David spoke of his work experience  about design copying for another version. Productstream resulted in an easier and more accurate copy performance then Vault.

It is recommended that Vault should be used by one CAD station operation.

We also discussed about known 3D CAD software performance and the type of CAD Kernel used.

Wolfe spoke about positive changes announced by AUGI of future NFR CAD software's.

November 12/07 meeting highlight:

12 SOAP members attended this meeting.

Paul Nuyens, formerly Autodesk technical advisor spoke about the Company he is working for.

One of the product manufactured is the lowest Hospital Bed, 8 3/4" high from floor to underside of mattress  in low position.

 Paul explained the function of Vault,  implementing Vault and Productstream and outlined 7 reason to use Vault:

1. Last saved file wins

2. Searching

3. Attachments

4. Versioning and history

5. Single project file

6. Copy design

7. One source of "Truth"

Productstream is a separate entity and has to be purchased separately.

Productstram is intended as Release Management, Quality Control,

Production and Purchasing control, outside vendors and suppliers.

October 09/07 meeting highlight:

8 SOAP members attended this meeting.

The meeting moderator was unable to attend.

Various CAD related item was discussed among the members.

Wolfe outlined the policy change by AutoDesk relating to NFR Software, but we are hoping it will be resolved in favor of AutoDesk user groups.

David Estabrooks open the meeting with discussion and talk about CAD related website, mention about  up-to-date websites.

David spoke about his experience with Vault plus and had a discussion about part/dwg revision and version which the Vault does not differentiate.

We also had a discussion about Product Stream.

David spoke about experience he had using of Vault with difference type of serve, and outlined procedure for retrieving of files from the Vault.

David demonstrated Inventor I-Part creation.

Wolfe outlined the change by AutoDesk relating to NFR Software.

June 11/07 meeting highlight:

10 SOAP members attended this meeting.

This meeting was entirely about Inventor 2008, great meeting, not all discussed items will be listed here.

David talked about corporate server license, Vista operating system, 32 and 64 bit system.

We had a discussion about new and deleted features.

David demonstrated one of the new feature, within IDW or DWG format ISO dimensioning capabilities.

We had a discussion and demonstration of the Stretch command within IPT format.

We also had a discussion of Tolerance features.

May 14/07 meeting highlight:

8 SOAP members attended this meeting.

David explained the use dwg template within Inventor.

We discussed some of the problem David encountered about text height within the title block.

Discussed tolerances variables of copied parts which is sometime overlooked.

Discussed reasonable and appropriate metric tolerance decimal places.

We talked about designing of object which were impossible to be manufactured. 

David compared object created in Solidworks to Inventor.

April 09/07 meeting Cancelled

 

March 12/07 meeting highlight:

8 SOAP members attended this meeting.

David Estabrooks mentioned the scheduled March 23/07 release of AutoCAD 2008, Inventor2008 should be released by April 10/07.

We had a discussion about Vista Operation System.

Per SOAP member request, David Estabrooks demonstrated changing of text height within Inventor IDW files and David explained about the layer system within IDW files.

We talked about creating notes within  Inventor of an assembly or individual part.

David also demonstrated how to calculate a liquid volume within an irregular shaped Oil pan.

February 12/07 meeting highlight:

7 SOAP members attended this meeting.

David Estabrooks explained difference method of using metal ceramic mold dor casting difference type of metals.

David also explained and demonstrated Inventor Studio.

To place several components at one time within an Inventor assembly file, David demonstrated this feature with the Windows Explorer command.

Demonstration was also performed of an Inventor break out view.

January 08/07 meeting highlight:

10 SOAP members attended this meeting.

David Estabrooks talked about features and function of SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor. 

The Company David is working for have recently switched from SolidWorks to Autodesk Inventor. 

David also talked about new features and improvements which is now within the Beta version of Inventor 2008 equal to Inventor 12.

Wolfe Derle detailed the Inventor NG World Cup Challenge of September and December 2006.
